TUCSON, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is making another emotional public appeal for information about her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, as investigators continue working the case nine months after the 84-year-old Arizona woman disappeared.
Savannah shared the plea Sunday, Nov. 1, in an Instagram post featuring a childhood drawing by her daughter. The picture showed a rainstorm, an umbrella and a message that read, “I know it might not seem like it but I really need my mommy.”

The television journalist also posted a throwback photograph of her mother smiling.
“The world goes on, things appear ‘normal’ — as we try to keep going and be strong, especially for our young kids — but it’s not and it never will be,” Savannah wrote.
She said the family continues to ache for Nancy and is desperate for answers. Savannah appealed directly to anyone who may have information, asking them to come forward.
“Our mom was a light in this world,” she wrote, adding that the family wants to celebrate Nancy and give her the dignity she deserves. She also reminded the public that the family’s $1 million reward remains available for information leading to her discovery.
Nancy was last seen Jan. 31 and was reported missing the following day after she failed to attend a virtual church service. Investigators have released information about video footage from a camera at her front door that showed a masked individual attempting to enter the property. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect.
The family also received multiple purported ransom notes after Nancy disappeared. Savannah discussed the notes during a March interview with former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb, saying she believed two of the notes the family received and responded to were authentic.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Friday, Oct. 30, that the investigation remains active and that the task force continues working with forensic laboratories to advance DNA analysis.
Investigators traveled to Florida earlier in October to meet with laboratory scientists and discuss additional ways to move the DNA work forward, the department said in an update posted to its official social media account. The department said it continues coordinating with its investigative partners and urged anyone with information to contact authorities.
“No tip is too small,” the department said, emphasizing that even seemingly minor information could prove important to the investigation. Tips can be submitted by calling 88-CRIME or 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Savannah has returned to the Today show after taking a weeks-long break following her mother’s disappearance. She closed Sunday’s post by thanking people who have supported the family and asking them to continue praying for Nancy’s safe return.
The disappearance is being investigated in Pima County, in southern Arizona, where the sheriff’s department continues to coordinate the search and forensic work. The map below shows the county area, not Nancy’s specific residence or the exact location where she was last seen.
