REDONDO BEACH, CA. (THECOUNT) — All lanes of the San Diego 405 Freeway have been closed – In both directions at Inglewood Avenue in Redondo Beach – After a truck carrying Hydrogen Cyanide was involved in an accident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the busy freeway will be closed for the foreseeable future.
Hydrogen cyanide (HCN), sometimes called prussic acid, is a chemical compound with the chemical formula HCN. It is a colorless, extremely poisonous and flammable liquid that boils slightly above room temperature, at 25.6 °C (78.1 °F).
Hydrogen cyanide is usually carried in sealed crash-proof containers. It is unclear if any of the substance has leaked. It is known to be used in chemical weapons among a variety of other caustic uses.
