PERRY, IA. (THECOUNT) — 18-year-old Ella Holtzen and 14-year-old Harrison Holtzen have been identified as the siblings killed in a two-vehicle crash near Perry, Iowa Tuesday morning.
The victims, both Hinton High School students, were both killed in a crash on their way to school early Tuesday morning.
According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, the teens were traveling in a vehicle on County Road K22 & Granite Avenue in Perry, IA in southwest Plymouth County, when the fatal crash occurred.
Although the exact cause of the crash is unclear, authorities say the roads were “100% covered with ice,” at the time, reports KITV.
The sheriff’s office says the students were driving northbound on K22 when they entered a curve and slid into the path of an oncoming pickup.
The driver of the pickup, 66-year-old William Samuelson of Sioux City, was not hurt.
The Iowa State Patrol and Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crash.
