MADISON, IN. (THECOUNT) — Tyler Cooley, a senior at Southwestern High School in Hanover, Indiana, has been identified as the victim in a police pursuit vehicle crash near Madison, Indiana Thursday night. The crash forced the cancellation of Friday’s Homecoming dance.

Cooley, 18, and Brooklyn James, 19, both died in Thursday’s crash following a high-speed police pursuit that ended in Jefferson County, Indiana.

According to reports, the pursuit commenced at 4 p.m. after Madison police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit ended after about 20 minutes when the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a utility pole at State Road 256 and Thompson Road.

James and Cooley were passengers in the vehicle.

The driver was transported to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Police said the driver did not have a license at the time of the crash. So far, no charges have been filed, reports WLKY.

No officers were injured in the pursuit.

Southwestern High School said it has canceled Friday’s Homecoming dance.
