CLIMAX SPRINGS, MO. (THECOUNT) — Phillip Johnston, of Kansas City, MO, has has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle in Climax Springs, MO, Wednesday night.
Johnston, 67, was killed after the driver of a pickup struck him Wednesday night after he exited his vehicle while attempting to help a man standing on the highway.
According to officials, Johnston exited his his vehicle to render help to Gerald Beck, 49 of Climax Springs who was standing on Highway Z south of Coffman Bend Drive.
A third man, Sean Johnston, 43, of Climax Springs exited another vehicle to also assist Beck.
Officials say, all three men were then struck by a pickup truck around 9:48 p.m., reports KY3.
Beck and Johnston were transported to area hospitals where Johnson was later pronounced dead.
Beck is being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.
The patrol didn’t say why Beck exited his vehicle.
It is unclear if anyone was cited at the scene.
