HOUSTON, TX. (THECOUNT) — Jonte L. Grant, of North Houston, has been identified as the suspect charged with first-degree murder after police said he fatally shot his stepfather, 50-year-old Bryant Croomes on New Year’s Day in northwest Houston, city officials said.
Grant, 22, was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
According to prosecutors, Grant fatally shot Croomes around 1:50 a.m. at the Garden City apartments in the 9600 block of West Montgomery Road.
Grant allegedly shot his stepfather in the back, then again in the chest and then finally in the head, reports HoustonChronicle.
When officers arrived, they found Croomes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Grant had fled the scene, but later returned and was arrested.
Croomes was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple gunshot injuries.
