SCHOFIELD, WI. (THECOUNT) — Randal Landwehr, of Marathon, Wisconsin, has been identified as the Good Samaritan killed while assisting a disabled motorist on Interstate 39 in Schofield, according to Wednesday morning reports.

Landwehr, 62, was fatally struck and after stopping to help another motorist fix a flat tire on I-39 on Tuesday night near Milton.

According to officials, Landwehr was run over by a possible drunk driver around 7:15 p.m. as he walked back to his truck to retrieve some tools to help a man from Bessmer, Michigan change a tire on his camper.

Landwehr was hit by a truck driven by a 53-year-old Mosinee man. A police report says alcohol was involved in the crash. The driver has not been identified, reports WSAU.

The State Patrol says the accident remains under investigation.
