Raleigh ‘Snoopy’s Hot Dogs’ Founder ‘Steve Webb’ Dead At 81

RALEIGH, NC. (THECOUNT) — Steve Webb, the founder of Snoopy’s Hot Dogs & More, has passed away, according to a post on eatery’s Facebook page. He was 81.

Webb passed away on Thursday at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington due to complications of open-heart surgery, the post read.

“We are sad to announce that Snoopy’s founder, Steve Webb, 81, passed away on Oct 31, 2019, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC following complications of open-heart surgery.

In 1978, he transformed an old gas station on the corner of Wake Forest Rd. and Whitaker Mill Rd. into Snoopy’s Hot Dogs, serving hot dogs the way they were served in little places throughout eastern NC: with mustard, onion, and chili, steamed in a bun. The menu also included cheeseburgers, fries, and homemade chicken salad. Snoopy’s was one of the first places to be open late nights.

Steve was a dynamic and caring individual who thought outside the box. He challenged others and himself to be informed and involved in the issues of our community and to be active citizens. He used the marque sign at the Wake Forest Rd. Snoopy’s to not only promote the menu but to express his ideas and opinions.

Snoopy’s was always on his mind and in his heart. He greatly appreciated the loyalty of our customers over the years, and nothing delighted him more than to go somewhere and hear someone say, “I just love Snoopy’s!”

Webb converted an old gas station at the corner of Wake Forest Road and Whitaker Mill Road into the first Snoopy’s hot dog stand in 1978. The classic Snoopy’s hot dog was served with mustard, onion, and chili and steamed in a bun, reports WRAL.

Steve man be gone, but his world-famous crinkle cut french fries live on in his memory.
