Elijah Cummings Wife Maya Rockeymoore Comments On Passing ‘He Worked Until His Last Breath’

BALTIMORE, MD. (THECOUNT) — Following the passing of her husband, Rep. Elijah CummingsMaya Rockeymoore Cummings, the head of the Maryland Democratic Party, has spoken out on Twitter Thursday morning.

Cummings died Thursday in what his office described as ‘complications concerning long standing health challenges.’

The longtime Rep ultimately succumbed to a number of health problems, his office said in a statement Thursday. Though he entered Johns Hopkins Hospital for a heart procedure in September and never returned to Congress, as his wife has now confirmed, he never stopped working, not until “his last breath.”

“Congressman Cummings was an honorable man who proudly served his district and the nation with dignity, integrity, compassion and humility,” Maya Rockeymoore Cummings said in a statement released on Thursday. “He worked until his last breath because he believed our democracy was the highest and best expression of our collective humanity and that our nation’s diversity was our promise, not our problem. It’s been an honor to walk by his side on this incredible journey. I loved him deeply and will miss him dearly,” reports TheEpochTimes.

A look at Twitter shows people from across the globe paying tribute to Maryland civil servant by sharing and making trend a months-old tweet:

Elijah E. Cummings via Twitter July 24, 2019:

@RepCummings “I’m begging the American people to pay attention to what is going on. Because if you want to have a democracy intact for your children, and your children’s children, and generations yet unborn we’ve got to guard this moment…this is our watch.”
