MONROE COUNTY, IA. (THECOUNT) — Albia, Iowa man, Zachary Bates, has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle near Albia early Wednesday morning, according to reports.
‘Zach’ Bates, 23, was on-foot when he was killed in a collision that occurred on Highway 34 about three miles east of Albia Wednesday morning around 1:11 a.m., according to the Iowa State Patrol crash report.
A car operated by 23-year-old Marcus Major was traveling westbound, when for unknown reasons, Bates entered the roadway near 6935 Highway 34.
Major braked and swerved but was unable to avoid striking Bates.
Bates was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Major and his passenger were not injured, reports WHOTV.
The accident is under investigation.
