SALT LAKE CITY, UT. (THECOUNT) — Michael Brand of Salt Lake City has been identified as the man shot and killed by SLC police on Monday.

Brand 43, was fatally shot while toting an Airsoft gun, according to KUTV.

Officials also said their during the incident a deputy was shot by friendly fire.

SLC officials say Brand was killed in a “very dynamic situation that escalated quickly,” according to Twitter.

@slcpd UPDATE: Very dynamic situation that escalated quickly. We have determined the officer was hit by our own gun fire. This was a tragic situation, which could have been even worse. We are thankful our officer was patched up and sent home quickly.

The next release of information will come at the OICI press conference that will occur within 10 business days of the incident.
