EAST GRAND FORKS, ND. (THECOUNT) — Fernando Balboa, the North Dakota man reported missing one week ago, has been identified as the body found near East Grand Forks Monday night, July 15.
Family members said last week that Balboa had health problems and was recently diagnosed with cancer. He required medication every four hours for his illnesses and that he could be in danger.
Balboa’s body has been transferred to the University of North Dakota Medical Examiner for identification and to determine the cause of death, according to police.
A cause or manner of death was not provided by officials.
Investigators searched the Grand Forks area, including along the Red River for signs of Balboa, but reissued their call for help from the public after recent storms in the Grand Forks area, reports GrandForksHerald.
Officials are expected to confirm the identity of the body Tuesday.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
Anyone with possible information on the case should contact police at 911.
