DEER TRAIL, CO. (THECOUNT) — William Moden has been identified as the Colorado State Patrol trooper fatally struck by a vehicle late Friday night, according to CPS officials.
Moden, 37, was investigating a crash on Interstate 70 near Deer Trail when he was struck by a passing vehicle after 9:30 p.m. Friday night.
The trooper exited his patrol car while investigating another crash with serious injuries on Interstate 70 between Peoria and Deer Trail in Eastern Arapahoe County around 9:40 p.m. Friday night, CSP Chief Col. Matt Packard said during a news conference early Saturday morning.
Another car drove through the scene, striking Moden.
Other troopers who were already on-scene immediately began assisting Moden, according to 9News.
Moden was transported by a LifeFlight helicopter to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Details of the others involved in the deadly incident were not provided Saturday morning.
