MIAMI, FLORIDA. (THECOUNT) — Varsity Blues kingpin, Rick Singer, who pled guilty to rigging entrance exams and bribing college coaches, once claimed under oath he coached “tens of thousands” of students get into elite colleges.
Singer, who was an expert witness on behalf of a school in a discrimination case involving a student, sat for a 2016 deposition and claimed he coached countless students to enter college.
Singer testified he has served on admission committees for UCLA, Univ. of California. at Davis, Chapman Univ. and Univ. of Miami.
Both UC campuses and Chapman told The Times that Singer was lying, claiming he never worked there.
According to TMZ, the depo was taken a two years before Singer was implicated in the scam. During this time, he developed a reputation among rich parents in Hollywood, the Silicon Valley, New York and elsewhere as the go-to guy to get their kids into college, says TMZ.
Scores of parents have been charged with federal crimes, and although some, including Felicity Huffman, have pled guilty, other, notably Lori Loughlin, have not. Defense sources in several cases tell TMZ, they believe they can convince a jury the parents, just like the colleges, were duped by Singer.
