LAKE STATION, IL. (THECOUNT) — James J. Ariel of Chicago, Illinois, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road I-80/90, in Lake Station, Indiana on Saturday.

Ariel, 22, was operating a Chevrolet Malibu, when for unknown reasons, he crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle then entered a culvert and erupted in flames.

First responders pulled a person out of the vehicle and attempted to revive them, but were unsuccessful.

ISP said Regional Dispatch for the Indiana Toll Road received a 911 call of a vehicle on fire near the entrance ramp of I-65 northbound to the Toll Road merges to I-80/90, reports WLFI.

Ariel was pronounced dead at the scene.
