ALBUQUERQUE, NM. (THECOUNT) — Brandon Reynolds has been identified as the Albuquerque, New Mexico father arrested over the beating death of his 5-year-old-daughter after the girl failed to complete her homework.
Reynolds, 36, was taken into custody and after he admitted to beating his daughter, Sarah Dubois-Gilbeau, to death with a water shoe over her failure to complete her homework.
First responders were called to an Albuquerque apartment complex just before 1 a.m. Saturday where they found the little girl in possible cardiac arrest.
When police arrived to the scene, Reynolds told them the victim had “heart problems.”
Officials found inconsistencies with Reynolds account of the chain of events leading up to the girl’s death.
“The injuries were not consistent with what they were told,” said Officer Simon Drobik, of the Albuquerque Police Department. “It appears that this father brutally beat this child,” Drobik said.
Reynolds admitted to investigators that he got mad at his daughter when she didn’t want to do her homework late last night.
He told police it “triggered” him and that he beat her with a water shoe up and down her body, reports FOX19.
According to police, Sarah had moved back and forth from New Mexico to California over the last five years.
Reynolds does not appear to have a criminal record in New Mexico.
