GoFundMe For Ohio Teen Sylvia McGhee Found Shot Dead Saturday Behind Canton Home

CANTON, OH. (THECOUNT) — Sylvia McGhee has been identified as the teenager shot and killed behind her home in the 1000 block of Bieyl Court Southwest, in Canton, Ohio Saturday.

Paramedics responded to calls of a teenage girl suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Upon arrival, first responders found McGee deceased with obvious gunshot injuries to the head, according to police.

McGhee, 14, was an eighth grade student at Compton Learning Center Connection Program in Cleveland, Ohio. The victim also was known to many at STEAMM Academy at Hartford, according to the Canton school district.

The district said counselors will be at both of the schools on Monday, but support will be available for those in the district struggling with the loss for as long as they need help coping, reports Cleveland19.

Superintendent Barbara Maceyak issued the following statement on behalf of the Canton City School District regarding the murder of their student:

“The Canton City School District would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of our student Sylvia McGhee. Sylvia was in the eighth grade at our Compton Learning Center’s Connections Program. We will have our counselors available there on Monday and at the STEAMM Academy @ Hartford, where she previously attended and had many friends. District support will be available for those who are struggling with grief for as long as they are needed following this tragedy. We ask that you keep Sylvia’s loved ones, classmates, and our district in your thoughts as we mourn her loss.”

No suspect or motive information was provided by police.

The investigation is ongoing.
