PORTLAND, ME. (THECOUNT) — Oxford, Maine, Fire Chief Gary Sacco, has died after experiencing a medical event while attending the funeral of Capt. Joel Barnes on Sunday, according to NewsCentralMaine.
Sacco was with firefighters from all over Maine honoring the life Barnes, who died in a Berwick fire, when he tragically died after suffering a medical episode on Sunday in Portland.
Sacco served for years as the fire chief of Oxford, Auburn and New Gloucester Fire Departments.
Sacco served as the fire chief in Auburn starting in 2017 after he retired from New Gloucester where he was fire chief for 12 years.
A cause of death was not provided.
