YOSEMITE VALLEY, CA. (THECOUNT) — Xuan Wang, of Cupertino, California has been identified as the victim killed while hiking in Yosemite National Park Sunday, according to park officials.
Wang, 56, was hiking on the Mist Trail, in Yosemite Valley, when she was struck by falling rock and ice Sunday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries caused by the falling rubble.
According to park officials, the Mist Trail is closed during this time of year due to icy and hazardous conditions. They say the trail closure is clearly marked and there is a gate to remind visitors of the closure, reports ABC30.
Park officials say they believe Wang ignored warning signs and entered the restricted area.
Officials offered no further information saying more details will be released at the time the investigation has been completed.
