GREENWOOD, ME. (THECOUNT) — Elizabeth Abelson, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, has been identified as the victim in a fatal snowmobile crash, that also took the life of her unborn child late Saturday morning.

Authorities in Maine say Abelson, 30, and her husband were riding on a snowmobile Saturday around 11 a.m. on a trail in Greenwood, Maine when the fatal crash occurred. It is unclear if Abelson’s husband was injured.

Abelson and her unborn child, due in March, did not survive the crash.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife said Elizabeth Abelson was driving a snowmobile Saturday at 11 a.m. on a trail in Greenwood when she lost control, was ejected from the snowmobile and collided with trees. source

An accident report noted that Abelson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Greenwood is in western part of the state and is home to Mount Abram ski area.

The crash is under investigation.
