LOUISVILLE, KY (THECOUNT) – Police have shut down George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge, aka, Second Street Bridge, after reports that a barge struck the bridge Tuesday night.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8:30 p.m. It is unclear when the bridge will reopen.
The Louisville Fire Department was on scene and said the bridge will be shut down in both directions for safety precautions. source
Metrosafe said the shutdown will allow crews to assess damage.
This is the second incident involving a barge in the past week. Last Friday, a barge struck the overlook wall in Waterfront Park.
