SC Woman Jennifer Mabry ID’d As Suspect Shot Dead In Thursday Spartanburg Police-Involved Shooting

SPARTANBURG, SC. (THECOUNT) — Jennifer Mabry from Pacolet, South Carolina, has been identified as the female killed during a Thursday night police-involved shooting near US-176 in Spartanburg.

Mabry, 34, was killed in the shooting following a police pursuit and footcase in Spartanburg near John Dodd Rd Thursday night.

Officials said deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a dark sedan driven by Mabry around 7:46 p.m. near US 176 and John Dodd Rd, over a possible improper tag display issue.

Mabry reportedly sped away from deputies and a chase was initiated. Officials said Mabry began firing at deputies from the vehicle, however, deputies were somehow able to get close enough to the vehicle to perform a successful pit maneuver.

Mabry’s vehicle became disabled during the pit maneuver and she fled the vehicle on foot. Officers began a foot chase.

Officials say, Mabry eventually turned, faced officers and placed a weapon to her own head. Officials say she then pointed the weapon at officers which prompted them to open fire.

“It appears she took her own life, but deputies fired shots at her too,” Wright said. source

The involved deputies were not injured. They have been placed on leave and SLED has been called in to investigate as is standard procedure.

Anyone with possible information on the deadly incident should contact police at 911.
