SYRACUSE, NY. (THECOUNT) — Syracuse, NY, has seen its third violent death in the last eight days following the death of a 12-year-old boy Wednesday night in Syracuse.
A double-shooting was reported around near Park Street and East Division Street, around 9:35 p.m., said a Syracuse Police Department spokesman.
Witnesses said the boy had run to a convenience store in the 1000 block of Park Street after he was shot. After the bleeding child collapsed in the doorway of the store, witnesses said a woman put him in her car and drove him to St. Joseph’s. source
The 12-year-old boy arrived at the hospital and died soon after. He had been shot near his stomach, officials said.
Officers later determined the double-shooting happened in the 100 block of John Street. A 33-year-old woman was struck on the arm by a bullet during the shooting, police said. She was treated at a hospital for a non life-threatening injury.
The boy was rushed from St. Joseph’s to Upstate University Hospital. He died around 3 a.m. Thursday, authorities said.
The child’s name will be released after his family is notified.
The boy’s death marks the 17th homicide in Syracuse so far this year.
