STERLING HEIGHTS, MI. (THECOUNT) – The Sterling Heights Police Department confirmed a Ford Motorcar worker died Thursday morning inside the Sterling Axle Plant in Sterling Heights.
According to a Ford spokesperson, the worker was found dead in a bathroom of the facility located at, Ford Sterling Axle Plant, Mound Rd, Sterling Heights, MI.
Plant officials say the death was “not work-related,” but did not elaborate. A cause of death was not immediately provided.
Sterling Heights Police said the worker was a 24-year-old man who told co-workers he wasn’t feeling well. The man went to the bathroom and was found dead around 12:10 Thursday morning. Co-workers told police he may have fallen at some point before going to the bathroom but police have not confirmed that information. source
Ford says it is cooperating with authorities on the investigation.
The cause of death is unknown at this time and an autopsy has been ordered.
The plant, at 39000 Mound Road near 17 Mile, makes rear for the F150, F250, Expedition/Navigator, and Mustang. It also makes front axles for those vehicles and rear drive units for Flex/MKT, Escape, Fusion/MKZ, Ecosport, Kuga.
The 171-acre, 3 million square foot facility opened in 1956 and employs roughly 2,360 workers.
