Frederick Christ Trump Sr, the husband of Mary Trump and father to President Donald, J. Trump, died of pneumonia in June of 1999. He was 93.

Fred Trump, a successful New York City real estate developer, fathered Donald John Trump, the 45th President of the United States, and Maryanne Trump Barry, a United States Court of Appeals judge.

Here’s a few interesting fast facts about the man who fathered the now leader of the free world.

In 1927, at age 22, a just out of college Fred Trump began a career in home construction and sales. E. Trump & Son grew quickly, building and managing single-family houses in Queens as well as garden apartments. E. Trump & Son soon secured contracts to build coveted U.S. Navy personnel barracks and several major shipyards along the East Coast, including Chester, Pennsylvania, Newport News, Virginia, and Norfolk, Virginia.

E. Trump & Son would be responsible for building to completion more than 27,000 apartments in New York City alone.

On Memorial Day in 1927, Fred Trump would be one of seven men arrested at a Ku Klux Klan march in Queens to protest that “Native-born Protestant Americans” were being “assaulted by Roman Catholic police of New York City.” He was later charged with “refusing to disperse from a parade when ordered to do so.”

In the mid-1930s, when homes sales crashed thanks to the Great Depression, Fred Trump helped pioneer the concept of “supermarkets” with opening of Trump Market in Woodhaven. The market was said to be an instant success, however, Trump sold it to the King Kullen supermarket chain only one year later. The sale of the business, although profitable, later became a longtime family lament.

Fred Trump was investigated by a U.S. Senate committee for wartime profiteering (1954), and by the U.S. Justice Department‘s Civil Rights Division for civil rights violations (1973).

The builder and his wife, Mary Trump, supported many causes through philanthropy. The couple was known for gifting entire buildings to worthy causes. Mary Trump once received medical care at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and later commissioned a massive addition to the facility, known as the Trump Pavilion. Fred Trump supported numerous Jewish and Israeli causes and institutions throughout his lifetime.

The Trumps were active in the Salvation Army, the now remodeled, Boy Scouts of America and the Lighthouse for the Blind.

For the last six years of his life, Fred Trump suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. He died from complications of pneumonia in 1999 at age 93, a few weeks after being admitted to a New Haven area hospital.

At the time of his death, the value of Trump’s estate was estimated by family members at $250 million to $300 million, according to Wikipedia.
