Karen Mathews Jenkins has been named as the Moulton, AL., woman hospitalized with serious injuries Friday after a water main cover flew into her vehicle and struck her in Decatur, police said.
Jenkins, 61, was reportedly traveling in the 500 block of Wilson Street NW Friday afternoon when the object flew through her windshield. The accident happened around 4 p.m.
Decatur Police Department spokeswoman Emily Long said another vehicle traveling on Wilson Street hit a water main cover, causing it to fly up into the air and fly through Jenkins’s windshield. The cover weighed about 15 pounds, Long said. source
Jenkins was taken to Huntsville Hospital. At last check she was in critical condition, according to Long.
Decatur police are investigating the incident.
