Reddit User Claims To Be Austin Serial Bomber “I Want To Watch The World Burn”

The Austin Police Department in Texas is investigating a mysterious social media user who claimed to be the Austin bomber and declared a desire to “watch the world burn.”

“My intention is not to kill people. I am doing this simply because I want to watch the world burn,” someone using the handle “austinbomber” posted to Reddit on Tuesday, according to the New York Daily News.

The user said he wants to be “as prolific as the Zodiac Killer,” the infamous serial killer who was never caught or identified despite having murdered at least five people in California between the 1960s and ’70s.

A spokesperson for the Austin Police Department confirmed to the Daily News officers are aware of the unnerving postings. The spokesperson said the department is “currently investigating” the user, but declined to say whether he is considered a suspect.

The Reddit poster, who said he’s between 30 and 50 years old, claimed the attacks are “not race-related, like the media has speculated,” adding, “I also enjoy laughing at the massive police presence that just simply cannot find or deanonymize me.”

So far, there have been five explosions across Austin since the bombings began on March 2. Two people have been killed and at least five have been injured as a result of the blasts.
