Jessy Cook has been found dead, authorities say. Cook, 18, went missing earlier this week after plunging off Huntington pier.
Officials said on Friday they had identified a body discovered in Huntington Beach, CA, as the missing 18-year-old. Whether Cook jumped or fell off the pier remains unclear.
A body was found near Tower 7 at the beach Thursday afternoon. A spokesperson from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department identified that individual as Cook.
Witnesses said they saw Jessy Cook, an 18-year-old from Temecula, go into the water Tuesday before losing sight of her. Her disappearance was reported to the Coast Guard around 11:40 p.m. source
Multiple agencies had searched nearly 137 square nautical miles for the teenager before calling the operation off Wednesday morning.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
