At least three people were reportedly killed and multiple others injured when a helicopter crashed into a house in Newport Beach Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The crash was reported just before 2 p.m. in the area of Egret Court, about a block from the beach.
Joseph Anthony Tena, 60, of Newport Beach and Kimberly Lynne Watzman, 45, of Santa Monica were named as two of the victims who died in the Tuesday crash, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The third victim’s information will be released pending notification of family, according to abc7.
The fire department says at least five people reported to be unconscious at the scene when firefighters arrived.
The R44 helicopter normally seats four people. It was unclear how many of the killed and injured were in the aircraft or on the ground.
The helicopter is based out of John Wayne airport in Orange County.
