NBC left many conservative Twitter users scratching their heads after posting a tweet Sunday seemingly supporting Oprah Winfrey for president of the United States.
During the Golden Globes telecast on Sunday night, NBC seemed to be campaigning for Winfrey, releasing a tweet picturing the talk show queen with the caption, “Nothing but respect for OUR future president.”
But as it turns out, the early and embarrassing endorsement was all just a horrible misunderstanding, according to NBC.
The network blamed a “third party” Monday for the misguided tweet backing the TV talk show queen’s supposed 2020 ambitions.
“Yesterday a tweet about the Golden Globes and Oprah Winfrey was sent by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the broadcast,” read the tweet. “It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement. We have since removed the tweet.” source.
Folks on social media were already having fun the now deleted tweet giving it a second life as a meme.
