Alabama Nucor Steel Worker Who Fell To Death Into Molting Vat Identified

Melvin Gant Jr. has identified the worker killed in what officials are calling an industrial accident at Nucor Steel Saturday afternoon, say the Decatur Police Department.

The investigation determined Gant slipped into a vat containing the waste product of finished rolled steel while performing his duties.

Authorities say after arriving to the scene they discovered that Gant had slipped into a vat containing the waste product of finished rolled steel. They say that no lifesaving techniques could be administered and that Grant was pronounced dead at the scene. source

Authorities have ruled Grant’s death an accident.
