The Miami-Dade Pre-Trial Detention Center is on lockdown after several inmates experienced serious seizures, according to the Miami-Dade police.
Authorities at the scene told reporters that four inmates appeared to have overdosed on a synthetic drug.
Miami-Dade Corrections spokesman Juan Diasgranados said an inmate inside a cell that was holding 24 men informed officers that several of them were not feeling well.
City of Miami Fire Rescue, Miami police and Miami-Dade police were all sent to the jail at 1321 NW 13th St. Four inmates were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He said two of the inmates were deemed to be in serious condition and the other two were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Diasgranados said the four men were the only inmates inside the cell who said they were feeling ill. source
Miami-Dade police detectives and Miami-Dade corrections officers are investigating the incident.
The jail remains on lockdown.
