The FBI is investigating a stabbing at Bishop International Airport as a possible terrorist attack after a man possibly wielding a large machete, attempted to behead an airport police officer.
The incident left one law enforcement officer in critical condition.
It happened Wednesday, June 21 about 9:45 a.m. on the second floor of Bishop International Airport’s main terminal.
Investigators said the officer was attacked from behind by someone wielding a knife of “substantial size.” The officer was taken to Hurley Medical Center in critical condition, according to Michigan State Police.
The suspect has been taken into custody. FBI officials told TV5 the suspect possibly came to the United States from Canada and speaks Arabic. The FBI is now investigating the case as a “possible terrorist attack,” according to officials.
