Nabra Hassanen, a Muslim teenager, is dead after she was abducted by a man as she walked with from friends near Northern Virginia mosque All Dulles Area Muslim Society.
Hassanen, 17, was found dead 3 p.m. Sunday in a pond in nearby Sterling, Virginia, police said. She reportedly left the ADAMS Center mosque to socialize with friends, after a late-night Ramadan prayer.
While searching for Hassanen early Sunday, Fairfax County Police officers stopped a man who was “driving suspiciously.” Darwin Martinez Torres, 22, was taken into custody as a suspect in the case and was subsequently charged with murder, authorities said.
Authorities are staying mum as to whether or not the case is being investigated as a possible hate crime, however, sources say there is great concern over “the timing of the attack.”
