Adam Yauch Park, the playground dedicated to the late Beastie Boys rapper was vandalized in NYC with spray-painted Swastikas and the words ‘Go Trump’ on Friday.
New Yorkers shared pictures of the antisemitic symbols which were tagged on the side of a child’s climbing train. ‘Adam Yauch Park in Brooklyn Heights was left defaced with ugly symbols of hate today. This cannot be the new normal!’ one person wrote on social media.
City Councilman Brad Lander tweeted a photo, adding, “Yet more hatred & anti-Semitism from Trump supporters. Police are investigating, and closed the park until it was removed, according to Pitchfork. Perhaps indicative of the intelligence level that breeds such outbursts, one of the swastikas was backwards, while the other was barely discernible. h/t dailymail
Yauch was one of the founding members of the rap group Beastie Boys, along with Michael ‘Mike D’ Diamond and Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz. Yauch died of cancer in 2012. He was 47. Palmetto Playground in Brooklyn was later renamed in his honor.
