“Call Me Caitlyn,” a Halloween costume inspired by real life man turned trans, Caitlyn Jenner, is setting off a firestorm of social media conversation just ahead of Halloween.
The costume comes complete with a padded top, matching bottoms and a brunette wig, reminiscent of the outfit Jenner wore on the controversial Vanity Fair cover.
Spirit Halloween and AnytimeCostumes.com are one of several retailers carrying the costume, which is selling for $74.99. “Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year, and Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her,” the company said in a statement. h/t abc7
Some people on social media think the getup is totally appropriate, while others are sharply criticizing the costume, hence a petition has been launched on www.change.org pleading, “Do not turn Caitlyn Jenner into a costume. Your profit will only lead to greater transphobia and marginalization of an already at risk community.”
