A Papa John’s founder and CEO John Schnatter attended the funeral of 22-year-old Gordon Schaffer who was killed in a store robbery.
The shooting occurred at Papa John’s in Columbia on Oct. 21.
Schaffer was laid to rest Saturday at Spring Hill Memorial Park with Papa John’s delivery cars lining the area behind the funeral home.
The company previously released a statement following Schaffer’s death that read, in full, “We are deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the Schaffer family. The safety of our employees is our top priority. We are providing counseling for our team members, and we are fully cooperating with local law enforcement during this investigation.” h/t wkrn
Papa John’s offered to pay for Schaffer’s hospital bills and funeral expenses.
A 17-year-old, Darious Fitzpatrick, has been arrested in the case and charged with first degree murder, felony murder and especially aggravated robbery.
