American Idol fans on Twitter are getting all revved up for tonight’s all-female show! All 17 of them! I kid! Anyway, the guys had their chance last night… If you haven’t watched AI this season, this might be a good chance to sneak up for a look. Just remember to look away when nicki minaj appears on your screen – or you will instantly become a little more stupid-er.
Wishful thinking. “This year, there’s going to be a girl winner.”
We call this wishful thinking.
But the producers have changed so much of the system this year – separating the guys and the girls, picking the members of each group, etc. — that maybe the process will produce something different.
We’ll see.
“Let’s hope we have just a group of girls that want to make their dreams come true,” says Mariah Carey. Keith Urban says he’d love to see a girl winner. A lot of us would.
This year, Ryan Seacrest says, they brought in a lot more girls than guys. So they’ll be dumping a hundred or so pretty quickly.
Angela Miller and Victoria Acosta and Mariah Pulice, from the Chicago auditions, are in the first group to sing for the judges in Hollywood.
Pulice sings well, eliciting a “wow” from Urban. Miller takes a moment to tell the judges that it’s definitely the girls’ year. She warms up as she gets into Jessie J’s Who You Are, surprising the judges with the quality of her performance. Acosta coversKilling Me Softly With His Song and has some pitch issues, though she’s got a strong voice.
Urban asks Miller and Acosta to move forward, but Pulice is out. “There’s a plan for everything,” she says, through tears, “and this just wasn’t it.”
Ashley Smith, Ann Difani and Sarah Restuccio (the Super Bass girl from New York) all go home without us hearing so much as another note.
Britney Spears also appears to have a problem with the outspoken Minaj,
A supposed “eyewitness” tells the tab, “Britney was in a good mood. When she spotted Nicki, she went over to her.”
The purported spy continues, “Right as Britney approached her, Nicki turned her back and walked away!”
“Britney knew she’d been dissed,” adds the so-called “source.”
But why?
The mag’s “insider” has “no idea.”
