“Inglourious Basterds” Does Gloriously

(Sorry about the bad pun)

Most people really enjoyed Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. I know I did. I felt a strong sense of Jewish pride watching all those Nazis get punished. Also, the film is well done and exciting without losing the indie spirit of a Tarantino flick. I thought the movie would do well. Not this well though.

Inglourious Basterds made $37.6 million this weekend, far surpassing predictions and bringing in a haul rarely seen in late August. It’s a big plus for The Weinstein Co. as well, who haven’t seen many hits yet. As well as the great box office, the movie is doing spectacularly with critics and audiences. It’s getting big thumbs up across the board.

The summer is just about over and this will probably be the last big news story from this movie season, unless The Final Destination or Halloween 2 really blow people away (they won’t). Now that it’s all said and done, we can officially say that Transformers: Rise of the Fallen ended up being the biggest film of the summer. But we all kind of saw that coming, right?
