AUTAUGA COUNTY, AL. (THECOUNT) — Justin Dewayne Sims, of Rockford, Alabama, has been identified as the victim killed in a head-on crash while fleeing from police on a motorcycle Sunday evening.

Sims, 29, died following a 2-vehicle head-on crash about 10 miles north of Prattville, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Sims was operating a Suzuki motorcycle when he refused to stop for Autauga County Sheriff’s deputies.

Around 6:30 p.m., Sims collided head-on with a Ford Edge on Autauga County Road 65 near Autauga County Road 20, in Verbena, Alabama.

According to the Associated Press, Sheriff Joe Sedinger said one of his deputies pulled over the biker after receiving a call about a group of speeding motorcyclists. The sheriff said Sims, who was armed with a pistol, got back onto his bike and fled before dying in a head-on collision, reports WSFA.

Sims was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
