FOX LAKE, IL. (THECOUNT) — Grant Community High School student, Sydney Weber, of Fox Lake, IL, has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed Saturday in Ingleside.

Weber, 16, was struck by a vehicle, operated by an 18-year-old Lake Villa woman traveling in a 2016 Jeep Patriot southbound on Wilson Road, south of Rollins Road, at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was reportedly hit by the Jeep after entering the roadway.

Weber was pronounced dead from injuries caused by blunt force trauma, and the routine toxicology report is pending.

“The investigation into her death is ongoing by our office and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office,” Cooper said.

“We have been in close contact with Sydney’s family and our deepest condolences go out to them. This is truly an awful tragedy,” officials said in a statement. source

The Grant High School sophomore made local headlines last year after being reported missing. Authorities returned her home safely in the incident.

The driver reportedly cooperated with authorities at the scene.

It is known if any charges will be brought forth in the case.

“Sydney posed a heart of gold, and was a very sweet and loving soul … She always did good in giving to others, especially to the homeless people on the streets of Chicago. Sydney was the light of her mother’s life and will forever be loved and cherished,” an obituary said.
