BURLINGTON, NC. (THECOUNT) — Eric Sonny Nuñez is charged with second-degree murder after allegedly striking and killing a man with his vehicle Thursday afternoon in Burlington, North Carolina, over an unpaid debt, according to police.

Nuñez is charged with second-degree murder after ramming a motorcyclist Thursday at around 1:15 p.m., in the 1700 block of Piedmont Way, in Burlington, NC.

Darwin Deon Graves, 41, suffered traumatic injuries after being struck in the roadway.

He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the collision.

Investigators learned that Graves had a verbal dispute with Nuñez over an unresolved debt shortly before the fatal crash.

Graves left the argument on a motorcycle.

According to police, Nuñez followed Graves in a small SUV. In the 1700 block of Piedmont Way, Nuñez intentionally hit Graves’ motorcycle from behind with his vehicle. Graves and his motorcycle then ran into the back of a van in front of Graves. source

Nuñez then fled the scene in the SUV and was taken into custody about two blocks from the crash.

Nuñez is being held in the Alamance County Jail without bond.

Police are still investigating.
