GREENVILLE, SC. (THECOUNT) — Jackson Eugene Cowdrey has been identified as the victim killed following a crash on Interstate 85 Wednesday evening, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

Jack Cowdrey, 21, was involved in a fatal accident which occurred around 8:55 p.m., near the mile marker 51 on the southbound lanes of the I-85.

Cowdrey was operating a 2002 Volvo when he ignored slowing traffic and rear ended a big-rig on Wednesday night.

Cowdrey did attempt to swerve right behind the tractor trailer to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful.

According to troopers, both the driver of the 2018 Freightliner tractor trailer and the driver of the 2002 Volvo were driving south on I-85. The driver of the Volvo was behind the tractor trailer, and hit the tractor trailer from behind. The driver of the Volvo, identified early Thursday morning as 21-year-old Jackson Eugene Cowdrey from Greer, was entrapped in the vehicle. According to Facebook, Cowdrey was a student at Anderson University. He attended Greer Middle College Charter High School.

No charges were filed, but the collision remains under investigation by SCHP and the coroner’s office.
