LA PLATA, MD. (THECOUNT) — Brian Duncan Davis has been identified as the man who shot and killed his 3-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself at a park in La Plata, Maryland, Sunday, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office says.

Davis, 33, was supposed to bring his daughter, Maddie Sabre Davis, back home to her mother at 6:30 p.m., but the two never arrived. He was later located dead along with his daughter at Gilbert Run Park located at 13140 Charles Street, La Plata, MD.

Deputies were called to Gilbert Run Park at 13140 Charles Street at 7:35 p.m. Sunday for a death investigation. Investigators say 33-year-old Brian Duncan Davis had a court-ordered visit with his daughter, Maddie Sabre Davis, On Sunday. He was supposed to bring the toddler back home at 6:30 p.m., but the two never arrived. source

After trying to contact Brian Davis, relatives began searching for them. The family found Davis’ truck at the park and called police. Inside the truck, deputies found the bodies of the father and daughter.

Investigators say Davis shot and killed his daughter before shooting himself.

A handgun was recovered inside the truck, authorities say.
