Dmitri Bullard has been identified as the man shot and killed during a Gresham police-involved shooting Friday morning.

Officials say Bullard, 24, was threatening officers with a hatchet when he was fatally shot. Police said Bullard had recently relocated to the area from Farmington, Utah.

Just before 12 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the report of a man prowling vehicles in southeast Gresham. Officers located the suspect vehicle near Southwest Butler Road and Southeast Regner Road. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, Bullard fled westbound on SW Butler. Officers did not pursue, according to police. source

According to police, when they caught up with Bullard he exited his vehicle armed with a hatchet and charged at officers.

Two officers discharged their service weapons. Bullard was struck by gunfire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
