Rand Paul said while appearing on Fox News that his Nephew was employed, “up until a few months ago,” as the principal of Santa Fe High School, the scene of a mass shooting where 10 people were killed.

Sen. Paul, R.-Ky., told Fox News that now is the time for action after revealing his own nephew may have dodged a bullet, literally, after exiting the school only months before the tragic shooting occurred.

Paul himself survived last summer’s shooting attack during a Republican lawmakers’ baseball practice.

“Every Hollywood actor that hates guns has armed bodyguards defending them. They hate guns unless the guns defend them,” said Paul.

Paul then said his own nephew was the principal at the same Texas high school that was the site of Friday’s mass shooting.

Paul went on to stress that he thinks the solution to preventing mass shootings is more about identifying people who may be a threat to public safety and to ensure they do not have access to weapons.

“Announce tomorrow and encourage everybody who protects our kids and teachers — principals, superintendents, school boards — announce we’re not going to leave our kids defenseless. We are going to defend our schools from crazy people with guns,” Paul urged.

Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, has been charged with multiple counts of capital murder.
