Sad music news as we are learning that Beatles‘ producer, George Martin has died. He was 90.
Martin was known as the “fifth Beatle” because his influence over the band’s iconic recording process.
Ringo Starr broke the news on social media.
A lot of Beatles fans credit Yoko Ono with breaking up the lads, but in a newly discovered interview from the 80s conducted by the British press she seems to be saying that it was actually Paul McCartney who broke up the Beatles….
The band “The Red Hot Chili Peppers” is set to play a free concert for Obama ‘phone bank’ volunteers Sunday, since the band will already be in Cleveland, Ohio Saturday, as they are being inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall-of-Fame”.
The ‘Obama and Biden’ Democratic team, decided to bride phonebank volunteers with a free RHCP concert, and in return, the campaign is getting phonecalls made out to ‘neighbors to prepare for the Obama-Biden upcoming canvass launch’.
On Obama’s campaign site, the event’s page shows that the volunteer spots are all filled, which means the RHCP concert is going to be packed.
The free concert takes place at Cleveland’s “House of Blues”.
There had been some rumors that Michael Jackson had left The Beatles’ song rights to Paul McCartney. To be fair, if anyone deserves the song rights, it’s him and Ringo Starr. Well, in a message on his website, Sir Paul has said he definitely does not have the rights to his songs, nor was he expecting them.
While Paul doesn’t have the rights yet, he doesn’t seem too angry at the late Michael. On his post, he says: “though Michael and I drifted apart over the years, we never really fell out, and I have fond memories of our time together.”
Oh well, maybe those song rights will make their way back to Paul and Ringo someday soon.
A stage adaptation of the band’s highly successful American Idiot will be opening the 2009-10 season of the Berkeley Repertory Theater.
Billie Joe Armstrong co-wrote the show’s book with Spring Awakening’s Michael Mayer.
Operating in the same rock opera/concept vein as The Who’s Tommy and Pink Floyd’s The Wall, American Idiot is “a nihilistic coming-of-age story drenched in post-9/11 paranoia” following “disaffected contemporary American Everykid Jesus of Suburbia as he morphs into violent, drug-dealing alter-ego St. Jimmy and falls for anarchist girlfriend Whatsername.”
WOW. I think Mariah Carey should also have her own musical. Wouldn’t that be awesome? (Not at all…not in the slightest). For some reason I give a pass to Green Day. Maybe it can be really creative and unique. They should blow up idiots on the stage hahah. That’ll bring in the crowd!
