NE Man Cody Bates ID’d As Victim In Thursday Night Omaha Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY, NE. (THECOUNT) — Cody J. Bates, of Gretna, Nebraska, has been identified as the victim in a single-vehicle crash in Douglas County Thursday night.

Bates, 22, was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Omaha Thursday night.

According to reports, Bates was operating vehicle on S 156th St near W Center Rd in Omaha, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway Thursday night. The vehicle then went airborne, traveled over a bridge embankment and wrecked into Papillion Creek.

Bates was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

NE 14-Year-Old Girl Driver Involved In Saturday Night Deadly Pickup-VS-Motorcycle Crash

OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — A 14-year-old girl was operating a pickup truck when she reportedly turned in front of a motorcycle carrying two people Saturday night in Omaha. The motorcyclist died and his passenger, Jenna Dieffenbach, was critically hurt in the crash.

According to officials, the teen driver was operating a Ford F-150 traveling in the intersection of 156th and Q streets in Omaha, when she attempted to conduct a left hand turn into the path of the motorcycle.

Dieffenbach, 24, was critically injured when she was ejected from the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was killed. His name has not been released as of Sunday morning.

Dieffenbach sustained serious injuries to her abdomen, pelvis, arm, and ankle that are not considered life threatening, reports ColumbusTelegram.

The teen driver, whose name was not provided, didn’t report any injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

NE Man Pat Elliott ID’d As Victim Killed In Fall From Omaha Tree Monday

OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — Pat Elliott, of Omaha, Nebraska, has been identified as the victim killed after falling from a tree on Monday.

Elliott, 66, died while apparently falling about 20 feet from a tree he was trimming in Omaha late Monday morning.

The victim was transported code 3 to an area hospital in critical condition on Monday.

Elliott was trimming a tree in the 600 block of Dorcas Street around 11 a.m. when he fell about 20 feet, reports KETV.

Elliott’s brother told police at the scene that the two were trying to remove a large branch from a power line when Pat fell.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Steven L. Mercer Owner Omaha NE ‘Time Out Foods’ Dies Suddenly At 59

OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — Steven L. Mercer, owner Nebraska, “Time Out Foods,” died suddenly on Christmas Day, according to reports.

Mercer died Wednesday. He was 59.

Mercer is survived by his mother, as well as numerous close relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mercer will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m., reports KETV.

According to a piece in “Unique Eats and Eateries,” Time Out opened in 1969 as a sit-down restaurant to help develop minority business in North Omaha. In 1972, Steve Mercer’s parents bought the business from Swanson. Using their family recipe for fried chicken, the restaurant became a success.

Mercer started helping out at the age of 11 and bought the restaurant from his parents at the age of 22.

He often joked that the secret recipe put Kentucky Fried Chicken to shame. Time Out was named the best fried chicken in Omaha multiple times.

A cause of death was not provided as of Friday.

NE Man Jose Gonzalez Arrested After Runs Down Omaha Mother Of 3 Holding Toddler

OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — Jose Gonzalez is accused of running his wife over with his truck as she clung to their 14-month-old child.

Gonzalez, 32, ran his wife over with his pickup truck following an argument at the couple’s Omaha home Thursday.

Reports say, police responded to an Omaha QuikTrip store near 60th & L St SW, in Omaha, NE, after an employee called and said a woman had locked herself and three children in a store bathroom area.

The QuikTrip employee advised officers observing the youngest child bleeding from head wounds.

Officials spoke with the woman who said Gonzalez ran her over with his pickup after an argument while she was holding their 14-month-old son.

The child suffered several lacerations to the face and head, police said. The other two children, 9 and 7 years old, were uninjured.

All three of the children and the mother were transported to an area hospital for observation.

Police said they later located Gonzalez, arrested him and took him in for questioning.

He faces charges of child abuse with intent of serious injury and domestic assault with a dangerous weapon. Continue reading

Omaha Waste Management Workers Killed In Friday Crash With Dump Truck Identified

OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — The Nebraska State Patrol has identified truck driver Pierre Neal, and passenger, Rogelio Sanchez Marin, both of Omaha, as the waste collection employees killed in a crash in far northwest Omaha Friday.

Neal, 26, and his passenger, Marin, 54, died Friday Afternoon in the Omaha community of Elkhorn, following a garbage truck crash that also involved a dump truck.

The patrol says the northbound garbage truck tried to pass a pickup that had slowed to turn right at an intersection. As the garbage truck swung around to pass, a dump truck at the westbound stop of the intersection turned right and into the path of the garbage truck. Investigators say Neal tried to get back into his own lane, over-corrected, and lost control. The truck rolled onto its side and slid into the dump truck. Continue reading

NE Woman Driver With 5-Times Revoked Licence Kills Omaha Motorcyclist Thursday

OMAHA, NE. (THECOUNT) — Omaha man, Joseph M. Dillow, has been identified as the motorcyclist killed in a Thursday night accident. Mederika S. Scott, 24, has been booked for Felony Motor Vehicle Homicide, Driving Under the Influence and Driving Under Suspension.

The collision occurred near 90th Street & Decatur in Omaha, just after 10:30 p.m. after investigators say Scott was operating a Dodge Durango heading north on 90th Street near Franklin at a high rate of speed.

Police say she was speeding when the Durango sideswiped a northbound SUV, struck a northbound Honda Civic then crossed the raised concrete median, rolled into the southbound lanes and collided with Dillow’s southbound motorcycle.

Dillow, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scott was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. She was treated, released and booked.

Court records indicate Mederika Scott has been convicted of driving with a suspended license five times in the past year. Continue reading

EBOLA Doctor Flown To Nebraska DEAD

The surgeon flown to Nebraska after being diagnosed with Ebola in Sierra Leone – has died, hospital officials said Monday.

Dr. Martin Salia, 44, is the second person to die of Ebola in the United States after Thomas Eric Duncan.
