LA Man Joseph Sampson ID’d As Victim Fatally Struck By Mardi Gras Float Saturday

NEW ORLEANS, LA. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Sampson has been identified as the man killed by a Mardi Gras float Saturday night during the Endymion parade.

Family members say, Sampson, 58, was as an outgoing person who loved Carnival parades and the New Orleans Saints.

Sampson’s wife told WWL-TV that she and her husband at first were not set to attend the parade. But plans for a party fell through, and they found themselves along the krewe’s route on Canal Street just past North Galvez Street.

Sampson was the second person killed by a parade float in the 2020 Carnival Season. Wednesday, Geraldine Carmouche, also 58, died after being struck by a tandem float during the Krewe of Nyx parade through Uptown.

Texarkana College Police Officer Damon Lynn Killed In Saturday Motorcycle Crash

SHREVEPORT, LA. (THECOUNT) — Texarkana College Police Officer Damon Lynn has been identified as the victim in a Saturday fatal motorcycle accident in Shreveport.

Lynn, whose age was not provided, was killed Saturday in a motorcycle accident in Shreveport.

According to reports, Lynn was participating in a recreational motorcycle ride with fellow police officers when he wrecked his motorcycle. Details of the crash were not made available.

The crash remains under investigation. There were no other vehicles involved.

Texarkana College mourns the death of TC Police Officer Damon Lynn who passed away today from injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident near the highway intersections of I-49 and I-20 in Shreveport, LA,” said Suzy Irwin Director of Texarkana College public relations.

Officer Lynn joined the TCPD in August 2016 and served as a patrolman since that time. Prior to Officer Lynn’s service with TCPD, he served in law enforcement with Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, New Boston Texas Police Department, Grand Prairie Police Department, and also in Oklahoma, reports KSLA.

LA 12-Year-Old Girl Abducted By Gunpoint From Jefferson Ochsner Hospital Friday

JEFFERSON, LA. (THECOUNT) — Evelyn Miller is being sought by police after allegedly abducting her granddaughter, Andreana Miller, from a Louisiana hospital on Friday night.

Andreana Miller, 12, was taken at gunpoint from Ochsner Hospital in Jefferson Parish by the 66-year-old at 5 p.m. Friday, according to Louisiana State Police.

Evelyn Miller was last seen wearing a purple shirt and black pants. Andreana Miller was last seen wearing a hospital gown.

Evelyn Miller is believed to be armed with a revolver style pistol, police said.

Early Saturday morning officials issued a Level II Child Endangerment Alert for Andreana, who is 4 foot 7, 135 pounds.

State police said the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office had recovered the vehicle used to abduct Andreana from the hospital, reports ABCCHICAGO.

Police have released no information about the motive for the abduction nor where they could be headed.

The facility is located at, 1514 Jefferson Hwy in Jefferson, LA.

LA ‘Trooper Of The Year’ Jason Boyet Home Raided In Child Pornography Investigation Wednesday

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — Louisiana State Police Trooper of the Year 2018, Jason Boyet, was taken into custody for questioning, after his home was raided Wednesday in connection with a child pornography investigation.

Boyet’s Tangipahoa Parish home was raided by officials Wednesday morning, according to sources.

The FBI and State Police were investigating a child pornography case that caused Boyet to be transported to the State Police Troop L headquarters in Mandeville for questioning.

A source within Louisiana State Police has confirmed the investigation, reports WWLT.

Boyet has been employed by LSP since 2006. In Feb. 2018, he was recognized as “Louisiana State Police Troop L Trooper of the Year,” according to a 2018 State Police Facebook post. He previously served in the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol.

Sources say, Boyet is married with 3 children.

LSP Troop L encompasses St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes.

LA Man John Latta ID’d As Victim In Fatal Wednesday Broussard Single-Vehicle Crash

Broussard, LA. (THECOUNT) — John Latta of Lafayette, Louisiana, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Wednesday single-vehicle crash in Broussard.

Latta, 57, was killed Wednesday morning following a single-vehicle crash on East Main Street in Broussard.

According to police, Latta was operating a vehicle on W Main Street, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle then made contact with a substantial tree and flipped over.

Latta was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, reports KATC.

The Broussard Police Department says that Latta was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the violent crash.

Toxicology results are pending.

A statement was released from her family, saying:

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that the family of Patricia P. Brister announces her passing Monday, February 3, 2020. Pat Brister (73), was a loving mother, wife, sister, and grandmother, as well as a successful business owner, volunteer, diplomat, pioneering woman in State and National Republican politics, St. Tammany Parish Councilmember, and most recently the St. Tammany Parish President.

Parish President Brister was a role model, mentor, and trailblazer for women in Louisiana politics. Among her numerous talents was the ability to bridge diverse ideologies and collaborate to bring about the best solutions and improvements for the people of St. Tammany Parish, and the State of Louisiana. Her tireless spirit and unstoppable energy made her leadership infectious to all who encountered her. Her style, grace, confidence, and focused determination were among the qualities people admired and loved, especially by her family, those she worked with, her long-time friends and even those knew her from afar.

Brister leaves behind: her daughter Jill Beck Heebe (Clark), sons Matt Beck, Mark Beck, and Ken Brister, as well as her beloved grandchildren Ryan, Ross, Leigh, Kay, Beck, Davis, Libby, William, and Henry. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Joe, after 40 years of marriage, and her late-son Steven Brister.

Spearsville LA Horror After Family Members Friend Killed In Saturday Quadruple-Fatal Domestic Incident

SPEARSVILLE, LA. (THECOUNT) — Casey Colvin, 40; her daughter, Billie Beaird, 18; and the daughter’s friend, Lela Platt, 17, have been identified as the victims in a horror Saturday domestic violence incident in the Spearsville area of Union Parish Louisiana. The unidentified shooter is also listed among the dead after taking his own life.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said the mother, daughter and the friend of the daughter were all killed by a 12-gauge shotgun. The shooter then retrieved a 30-06 rifle and shot himself, the sheriff said.

Another teenage daughter of the mother escaped through a window, ran to a neighbor’s house and called the sheriff’s office at 1:40 a.m., reports MyArklamiss.

Gates said the shooter’s name will not be released until next of kin are notified. Gates said the 48-year-old man is originally from Alabama.

The sheriff said when the first deputies arrived on the scene they heard the wife screaming for help.

“Deputies then made entry into the house and Pafford (Ambulance) was taking that victim to the hospital but she died en route,” Gates said. “The 18-year-old was found in the hallway and her friend was found in a bathroom.”

The victims were sent to Little Rock, Ark., where autopsies will be performed.

The sheriff said the incident is still under investigation.

Denham Springs LA Pediatrician Dr. Brian Zganjar Arrested On Sexual Battery Charges Tuesday

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA. (THECOUNT) — Denham Springs, Louisiana Pediatrician, Dr. Brian Zganjar, was arrested Tuesday, according to reports.

Zganjar, 51, was arrested following a week-long investigation into an alleged sexual battery, according to Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.

The charges include sexual battery, two counts of simple battery, and three counts of obscenity.

Zganjar was released the same day on a $76,000 bond.

He works at the Pediatric Associates of Denham Springs clinic, reports WAFB.

According to the clinic’s website, Zganjar became a board-certified pediatrician in 1996.

“Because of the nature of this case, I can’t go into much detail. I can tell you that we have received credible complaints regarding 51-year old Brian E. Zganjar. Those complaints from adult females include unwanted touching & the repeated exposing of genitalia. Some of those complaints date back to 2018 with some as recent as the 2019 holiday season,” said Sheriff Ard.

Major Alexandria LA Police Presence In ‘Active’ Situation Monday Night

ALEXANDRIA, LA. (THECOUNT) — A large contingent of law enforcement are working a scene Monday night in Alexandria, Louisiana, according to multiple reports.

The scene is playing out at Elliott Street near North MacArthur Drive in Alexandria on Monday.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, officers from RPSO, Alexandria Police, the FBI, and the ATF, along with Acadian Ambulance, are at the scene.

Police say there is no immediate threat to the public, and that precautionary action is being taken. Investigators are on the scene, and RPSO is working the perimeter.

The Monday incident following another incident last week in Alexandria in which an explosion took place outside of the former Buds and Suds last Thursday. The FBI and ATF took the lead in that investigation. On Saturday, federal agencies were also at an “active” scene on Jackson Street in a field adjacent to the Texaco gas station.

LA Man Kayzon Tenner ID’d As Victim In Saturday Night Fatal Baton Rouge Shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA. (THECOUNT) — Kayzon Tenner has been identified as the victim fatally shot in Baton Rouge Saturday night, according to officials.killed shot shooting Baton Rouge

Tenner, 24, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the area of 100 St. Rose Avenue on Saturday evening.

According to police, Tenner was found in the Mid City neighborhood with multiple gunshot wounds around 8 p.m., reports TheAdvocate.

Tenner was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

Authorities said possible suspects involved and the motive of the shooting are unknown at this time.
