TX Man ID’d As Victim In Friday Fatal Indiana Dunes State Park Crash

CHESTERTON, IN. (THECOUNT) — Carlo Garza, of Brownsville, has been identified as the victim killed early Friday after his car struck a large boulder at the entrance to the Indiana Dunes State Park.

Garza, 32, was operating a Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed when he exited the roadway and struck a large rock on the shoulder around 12:33 a.m. Friday.

Garza was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries, according to a coroner press release.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris identified the man as Carlo Garza, 32, of Brownsville, Texas. The Porter County coroner’s office responded to the state park at 12:33 a.m. Friday. Continue reading

Lake Michigan Double-Tragedy After Pair Of Chicago Boys Die In Separate Incidents At Indiana Dunes State Park

CHESTERTON, IN. (THECOUNT) — Joshua Torres, has been identified as one of two Chicago boys who died in separate incidents while visiting Lake Michigan at Indiana Dunes State Park.

Torres, 10, and another 14-year-old boy, drown Saturday, according to the Porter County coroner’s office. Torres was found face down in the water Saturday afternoon about 40 yards from the shoreline.

The second boy, a 14-year-old, was found in the water in the same area about an hour later.

The older boy was taken to Porter Regional Hospital and later airlifted to a children’s hospital at the University of Chicago. Continue reading
